KEVIN SHANK

 

Kevin Shank was born and raised in Coventry Rhode Island.  After graduating from high school he pursued his studies of guitar at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts graduating (Cum Laude) in 1984.  He gave private lessons and performed for community events in Rhode Island before enlisting into the military as a guitarist.  Kevin joined the US Army Band in Oct of 1985 and broadened his skills in all areas of performance including jazz, rock, and classical guitar.  Kevin has performed across the United States and abroad in Japan and Europe.  While stationed in various assignments Kevin had the opportunity to study classical guitar with Michael Newman at the Mannes College of Music in New York and Yasunori Kitsukawa while stationed in Japan.  Kevin performs most Sunday's at the Fort Knox Leaders Club, on occasion at the Gracefully Yours Tearoom, and has had numerous recitals at the University of Louisville and the Elizabethtown Community College.  Kevin has just completed his Masters Degree in classical guitar performance, teaches privately in the University of Louisville’s preparatory department, and is also on staff at the Elizabethtown Community College.  In addition, Kevin is now a member of the "Music Teachers National Association" and is certified as a Master Instructor.

Besides performing solo guitar concerts, Kevin also performs with his wife Christina who plays flute and has recently been performing with Armistead Grandstaff in a classical guitar duo. They enjoy performing for weddings, private functions and recitals.  They have recently performed for the Greater Louisville Music Teachers Association and are looking forward to performing for a charity event called Via Colori.  Kevin and Christina have two wonderful children Amanda, and Jonathan.

 

Kevin plays a Sakurai/ Kohno Concert model guitar, and uses D'Addario strings.
